Tuskers hunt down the LIONS ! CSK vs KTK Apr 19 2010.
The Kochi Tuskers Kerala hosted another team from the southern tip in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium this Tuesday under overcast conditions. The latter won the toss and inserted CSK to bat first. The opening duo of the Chennai Super Kings walked into the middle. Hussey , the man of the match of the previous game against the Royal Challengers worked the ball deftly into the gaps and earned two boundaries between the leg side. Murli Vijay carried on the rich vein of form into this match too. The Tamil Nadu player’s defense looked impenetrable. Shots oozing style and placement emanated from his willow in regular intervals. Michael looked all set for another match winning innings but R.P. Singh had another plans though. Hussey nicked a ball and Parthiv made no mistake to pouch it. Hussey mistiming a shot and loosing his life. Raina walked in. Vijay’s presence ensured a boundary an over and a respectable run rate for the team. However he succumbed leg before the wicket to Vinay Kumar. His ability to sacrifice his wicket has almost become idiosyncratic. Hope he puts a price on his wicket for the future games. When Dhoni walked in heavens opened. Covers were drawn and men operating the super soppers were seen working overtime to make the outfield devoid of dampness.
In the meantime rain showed signs of abating and the umpires walked out into the ground and scrutinized the outfield. The captains were summoned and a consensus followed. They decided to resume the play but it came with strings attached. The overs were truncated to 17 from 20 and the detested DL method was brought into play. Raina , who was in good nick resumed his stay in the crease. The post rain part of the CSK innings was a dampener. The highs were Raina’s half century and the two sixers born in the last over by MSD and A.Morkel respectively. Sparing those moments , CSK innings was strangulated by the KTK bowlers who almost checked the flow of boundaries. Shots were mistimed and Wickets fell at regular intervals. Curtains were down on the CSK innings when the score read a modicum 133. The officials put their heads together and finally arrived at a revised target which was slightly higher than the real target . 135 !
With the crowd fervently rooting for the home team and staying put in the stadium braving the downpour , it was Jayawardene and his boy’s turn not to disappoint them. They began on the right note. The openers smashing the ball all around the park. Big names were treated with scant regard and boundaries from the blade of Mccullum and Mahela kept flowing thick and fast. Mahela departed when he tried to overdo things . He was caught off Ashwin’s ball. Parthiv patel came in and yet again thwarted Chennai’s efforts to claw back into the match. The balls left were soon on even keel with the Runs required. Mccullum and Parthiv departed trying to hasten the win. Their utility players Hodge and Jadeja made sure they reached the target with two overs still remaining.
Jadeja was the marauder of the two since it was from his blade that a sixer emanated cutting the runs needed to 2. Mccullum was adjudged the MoM.
CSK has its task cut out. If they need to stay afloat , their bowlers have to step up to the plate………. Meanwhile the Tuskers from Kochi are on a roll……. They have earned the epithet of GIANT KILLERS !!
